Caring for Creation
Earth Day is for everyone of every denomination and belief. We all share the Earth and are responsible for taking care of the planet we call home. Earth Day 2010: The Update is making a special effort to reach out to the faith-based community. Here’s how to get involved:
- Churches, synagogues, mosques and temples can host volunteer worksites on Saturday, April 17 or Sunday, April 18 (Ready and willing? Great, register your worksite today! Need a worksite idea? How about planting some trees, creating a community garden, or installing a low-maintenance rain garden?).
- Reserve booth space at the Celebration on Thursday, April 22, and share the good works of your congregation.
- Partner with Ohio Interfaith Power & Light and/or Alternatives for Simple Living whose missions are to empower a religious response to the challenges of climate change and consumer culture.
“You shall not pollute the land in which you live…you shall not defile the land in which you live, in which I also dwell.” - Numbers 35:33-34
"Nature is of the very essence of Deity" - Israel Baal Shem Tov, Shivkhe Ha-Besht, 329
“The earth is a living creature and breathes as much as you and I do.” - Prophet Brigham Young
"We are all here on this planet, as it were, as tourists. Whether we live just a few years or a whole century, it would be truly regrettable and sad if we were to spend that time aggravating the problems that afflict other people, animals, and the environment." - His Holiness the Dalai Lama
